College of Arts participates in 2nd International Scientific Conference entitled "The Role of Geography in Solving Contemporary Problems" at Soran University, Erbil / Kurdistan Region of Iraq

Dr. Hassan Qaddoumi from the Department of Applied Geography at the College of Arts and Dr. Hijazi Al-Daajneh from the Department of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the College of Professions and Applied Sciences participated in two individual researches, and they are one of the members of the scientific committee of the conference, and Dr. Hassan Qaddoumi was a keynote speaker in the opening session. The conference was held in the presence and wide participation of the majority of geography departments in Arab and international universities, and presented 85 specialized research in several applied fields related to spatial problems of all kinds, and how the geographer found treatments for them so that it came out with results indicating solutions to contemporary environmental problems and threats and the role of geography in solving them, most notably the problem of climate change and its negative effects, the problems of water resources and obstacles to their investment and development, and the challenges facing economic activities (agriculture, industry and tourism) and ways to develop them. The problem of urban growth and expansion and ways to solve it, new trends in geographical research, including geographic information systems and remote sensing, the role of spatial techniques and analyses in the management and development of natural resources, strategic issues, energy security, food security, water security, Arab national security, urban transport problems and the role of modern technologies and geography sciences in solving them.

This geographical conference, with its global dimension, presented a vision and solutions that would contribute to solving contemporary environmental problems in the Arab world and globally, as well as to building a sustainable vision of geoinformatics in all its dimensions, to highlight geographical awareness of comprehensive developments in which geographers from all over the world participate with a unified vision to achieve a vision to solve all contemporary environmental problems.
