Ph.D. Program in Jurisprudence & its Foundations
Program learning outcomes
Upon completion of the study of the Islamic jurisprudence program and its origins, the student will be able to:
- Enhancing the ability to carry out scientific research in the branches of Islamic jurisprudence and its foundations, with reference to related sources and references, and commitment to documentation methods and the related scientific methodology
- Forming a basic scientific and cultural outcome related to the origins of deriving jurisprudential rulings from the texts of the Holy Quran and the Prophet's Sunnah and acquiring mechanisms for correct understanding of these texts as the main source of legislation.
- Formation of a basic scientific and cultural outcome related to Islamic legislation, its schools, the trends belonging to it, jurisprudential academies and contemporary religious institutions.
- Familiarity with the basic purposes of Islamic legislation, the ability to use them in understanding texts and reality, and proposing solutions to contemporary problems facing Muslim societies accordingly.
- Determining the parameters of the ijtihad (independent reasoning by an expert in Islamic law) approach in contemporary jurisprudence issues and its foundations, and reviewing examples of contemporary jurisprudential issues and how to make ijtihad in them according to the texts and purposes of legislation and a deep understanding of reality.
- Familiarity with the key contemporary intellectual issues related to the contemporary Islamic societies, and view them on the basis of moderation and adherence to the texts of Sharia and its general purposes and objectives.
- Familiarity with basic sciences and important aspects in contemporary societies, in politics, economics, education, psychology and sociology, from an Islamic perspective and according to a vision that harmonizes between tradition and modernity and is based on a deep understanding of reality.
- Forming a sound and strong creed basis, based on mental persuasion and free and sound thinking. With knowledge of the doctrinal issues that preoccupied scholars in the Islamic heritage, and the most important doctrinal issues of our time.
- Building a well-educated Islamic personality in the basic aspects of its heritage, and aware of the issues of its time.
- Building an Islamic personality proud of belonging to the Muslim Ummah, its religion, civilization, history and heritage.
