Course Description

Experimental Design & Analysis     50701

The students in this course will learn a general understanding of the logic and reasoning involved in the designing and conducting of experiments. The course will cover the basic principles of statistics, experimental design, and analysis that necessary to design an experiment properly, conduct the statistical analysis and mean separation, and to draw valid conclusions from the results.

Seminar (1) in Sustainable Natural Resources & their Management

The student make a review about certain subject within his field of study or his research through collecting information from local or international journals and bocks that published within the last 10 years, then the student make a presentation about this subjects by using power point or any other techniques followed by a discussion.

Studies in Natural Agricultural  Resources and its Sustainable     56701                      

This course studies subjects that not included in plan study and the study of this subject depends on availability of scientific lecture and the study important. This course can include practices in the field.

Managing, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Agricultural Practices  56702

This course addresses farm management skills, such as farm organization and operation techniques. It also focuses on accounting and budgeting practices, which can help students create and maintain a successful financial business plan for their farms. It is also designed to integrate skills and competencies from the agricultural economics concepts into a cohesive decision-making system that includes marketing, financial, operations logistics and human resource management.

Economic of Environmental Resources    56703

Develop a framework for understand and analyze the environmental issues and problems, and the polices which are related to natural resources and its sustainability. In this course the student will study the economic principles and the different methods for determining the best ways for using the natural resources in the long run. 

Applied Ecology

The practical application for the ecological standards, classification for the components of the ecosystems, indicators for the environmental stresses and the causes for the deterioration of the systems and its retrogressive trends, the strategies of protecting and managing the ecosystems, the chances available for improvement and the relationship between natural resources and community development, evaluating the impact of environmental factors on sustainable development.

Rural Development. Advanced  56705

The main objective of this course is to train students to become specialists in integrated rural development, and focus on socio-economic and institutional aspects both in developed and developing countries. This course focuses on identifying methods required to turn rural regions into productive areas, and to improve health and nutrition of the communities in these rural areas. It includes also rural governance and administration, theories for rural development, tools of project management and appraisal, and project planning and management.

Conservation and Monitoring Natural Resources      56706    

This subject studies assessments and monitoring natural resources and conservation of soil, water and plant, wind erosion, sedimentation and its effects on soil. Also this subject studies factors affecting wind erosion and the relationship between soil properties and soil erosion. Monitoring soil and water contamination. Course studies used to conserve water and soil.

 Plant Ecology (Advanced) 56711

This course aims to show how pattern and structure at different levels of plant organization (communities, populations and individuals) are influenced by abiotic factors like climate and soil, and by biotic interaction with other plants, attack by herbivorous animals and plant pathogens, and relationships with mutualistic organisms of various kinds. In addition, it will discuss the main processes in plant community and population, and the main characteristics and properties of plant community (like diversity, biomass, productivity, … etc). 

Measurement Techniques for Vegetation Cover  56712

This course will deal with principles and procedures used to obtain structural measurements of terrestrial vegetation communities, as well as the terminology related to these measurements. More emphases will be placed on the main plant and vegetation attributes and characteristics (cover, biomass, density, size, frequency, volume, and distribution) and the methods for evaluating and monitoring these characteristics on individual plant and community levels.  

Forest Improvement and development

This course cover the following subjects: the relationship between the science of improvement and development of forests and the science of forestry, the effects of forest structure, forest improvement and development< methods of thinning and its applications and effects on tree growth and production, reforestation, and plants used for reforestation, site preparation and choosing the type and system of forest improvement and development.

Plant Taxonomy  (Advanced)

This course includes discussions about plant classification and its bases, some international systems for plant classification and it includes information related to new applications used for plant classification such as using the plant morphology, pollen grains, plant science and chromosomes, genetics, ecology and geographical distribution, plant chemistry, classification analysis and its uses in classification system depend on finding a relation and revolution in the environment of plant clusters.

Development and developing rangeland     56717

This course includes planning for rangeland development, the different techniques used for developing rangeland, methods of controlling undesirable plants, planning for rangeland seeding, range management after seeding, fertilization, grazing management, evaluating and monitoring change in range condition.

Forage Crops (Advanced)

This course includes the study of types of forage crops and methods of planting and growing, study different subjects related to its nutritive value and the structure of forages crops, and its role in causing some diseases for animal farms, methods of chemical analysis for the forge plants for measuring the quantity and quality of forage production per unit area, in addition to methods of using forage crops: hay, silage, green forage, or direct grazing by animals.

Watershed Management       56721

Definition of watershed, Rainfall watershed, measurement of rainfall, temperature, evaporation, study of the water runoff  and the groundwater. Study the ways of collection the rainfall, including the water harvesting techniques and the small dams and water bonds.

Study of the groundwater movements in the ground reservoir. Drilling for groundwater, types of water harvesting technique. Calculation of river hydrograph.  

Water Recourses in Middle East   56722

The water resources in Palestine, Jorden, Syria and Lebanon. Study of the major river basins in the middle east area. Study of the rainfall amount. The hydrology of the main rock formation. The main groundwater reservoir. The distribution of water in in the West Bank and Gaza till 2040. The quality of water and water project.

Advanced Water Quality and Recourses    56723

Study of running water in the open channels, calculation of rainwater, channels floods and dams. Study of groundwater movement and quality and the artesian wells. Planning for water development projects. 

Wild life management    56731

This course includes introduction to wildlife and wildlife management techniques and equipment, ecosystem, natural community, community and species habitat. Also it will cover the following subjects: animal behavior and wildlife management, wildlife management and its relation with food, cover, hunting, water, soil, agriculture, rangeland, forest, and parasites.

Soil, Plant and Water Analysis     56741

This course studies soil fertility, factors affecting soil fertility, nutrients availability, nutrients absorption. Course studies correct methods soil, plant and water analysis. This subject  studies also available nutrients in open field and  green houses.  

Sustainable Management of Soil in Semiarid Regions      56742 

This course studies sustainable agriculture in semiarid regions. Course studies in dry lands also studies cultivation management and its effects on soil organic matter and management of soil fertility and nutrient cycle. and studies soil deterioration such as desertification, salinity and contamination, soil erosion. Its effects and diagnostic and control.

Advanced soil chemistry     56743 

Subject studies agricultural chemistry , chemical composition of plants. The function of elements in plants. Course studies the factors affecting on nutrients availability and its relationship on its absorption by plants .subject studies soil chemical properties such as ion exchange capacity, soil acidity and bufferity with chemical properties of soil.

Course studies modification of soil chemical properties using fertilization and assessments the effects on natural resources and influence of this fertilization systems on soil , water and plants.

Advanced Organic Agriculture 56744

This course includes the introduction to the soil, water and plant and the impact of using various uses of chemicals on the plant environment. In addition, it covers the concept of modern organic agriculture, and the economic feasibility of organic agriculture, environmental health and its importance, as well as studying the various aspects of organic farming methods, organic soil, organic crops, and organic resistance. Furthermore, it includes methods of organic crop production and the preparation of organic materials and add them to the soil, and organic farming and components planning, and preservation of micro-organisms that contribute to the analysis of organic matter and its conservation and maintenance.

Crops associated with organic farming (cover crops) as well as the crop rotation in organic farming will be discussed. Finally, uses of products of organic materials in increasing the soil fertility and resistance of plants to pests will be also discussed.

Remote  Sensing and Information Systems

This caurse includes introduction to the types of information systems and reading the satellite images and air photo and understand it, also image analysis and map preparation for the groung information such as: plant cover, land uses, earth layers, and the distribution of natural resources.

Advanced Plant Physiology   57702

The course will include a brief review of the basic principles of plant physiology, photosynthesis and respiration stomatal movements, C3, C4, and CAM plants. In addition, plant growth hormones and their metabolism, actions and control of the whole plant will be covered. Moreover, mechanisms of plant response to heat, chilling, and freezing stress including injury, acclimation, protection, and resistance will be discussed. Other stresses including salinity, pollutions, also will be discussed

Novel Approaches in Insecticides  57732

This course includes an overview of various alternative measures to traditional pest management, utilizing the biological control approaches as well as biotechnology.  Alternative control measures comprised pathogenic microorganisms, semiochemicals, including pheromones, botanical insecticides, and insect growth regulators.  In addition, the course discusses physiological and genetic approaches including genetic control of insect pests and plant resistance to insects.
