Project Summary

The core activity of the project is a highly developed Jean Monnet Module on the European Union taught at Hebron University at the College of Law and Political Science in order to encourage research and specialization in the EU among the students. In addition to the academic university course itself the module project includes the implementation of several public academic conferences on the EU and the Arab world to be held at HU. Moreover, several field trips to related institutions are conducted during it implementation phase.

Project Summary

Agriculture in the Palestinian territories is a mainstay in the economy of both countries. The production of agricultural goods supports the population's sustenance needs and informally employs 90% of the population.

On the other side, industrial and/or digital technologies are expanding in global phenomenon with an emphasis on digitalisation, automation, control and robotics in various operations related to soil cultivation management, optimization of crops nutrition, crop tending etc. Automated robotic systems can bring to agriculture flexibility in farmer decision making to select the optimal technological arrangements during the production process of the field crops, which entails not only economic but also the environmental and social aspects.

The use of (digital) technologies could allow the agricultural sector to achieve big leaps in Palestine, especially in increasing productivity and introducing the cultivation of new strategic classes of crops. The knowledge about advanced agricultural technologies have therefore become key for the farmers in these regions, throughout the process of cultivation and harvest.

Precision agriculture is an innovative concept in the countries of Middle East and especially in Palestine. This is not specifically about the technologies, but about the overall concept putting accent on understanding how the technologies can make the farming more accurate and controlled.

The innovative character of the project serves not only the capacity-building aspect for Palestinian HEIs, but also addresses the challenges faced by the EU countries regarding ICT, technological developments, and creating a global research framework for innovation and development regarding the integration of newest (digital) technologies into agriculture and rural development.

Project Summary

The complexity of nutrition as a discipline and practice tends to be overlooked; doctors, nurses and community health workers need specific preparation or guidance to deliver the nutrition services that health facilities are expected to deliver. When nutrition professionals are unavailable for field programs, international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) may hire other workers, whose nutrition competencies may be highly variable. Studies on nutrition workforce capacity conducted in Palestine confirm the severe shortage of skilled clinical nutrition professionals. In addition, because of a shortage of nutritionists, the bulk of the nutrition interventions were done by health workers who lacked the skills to provide quality nutrition services.

This project aims to enhance the clinical nutrition practice in Palestine and its role in the medical care process and has successfully achieved the following outputs:

1. Assessment of academic and professional needs
2. Training of academic staff and professionals and mobilization to European partner institutes
3. Preparation of Clinical Nutrition manual
4. Development of Arabic food analyzer software
5. Developing of Clinical Nutrition curricula
6. Development of food and nutrition laboratories
7. Exposing best local students to EU reaching

At the longer run, the project has accomplished the following results:

1. Reduced gap between academia and practical clinical nutrition sector
2. Turning the focus of the stakeholders onto clinical nutrition as a component of health care process
3. Knowledge and skill transfer to local nutrition workforce
4. Raised community awareness towards nutrition knowledge and practice
5. Networking with international academic and professional bodies

Project Summary 

PEACE project is an Erasmus+ project that falls under the Capacity Building for Higher Education (CBHE) category. The project seeks to support the modernization, accessibility, and internationalization of HEIs in Palestine.

The project seeks to achieve the following specific objectives:

1. Develop researchers' skills and capabilities on conflict resolution and reconciliation.
2. Strengthen strategic partnerships and networking with leading conflict resolution centres, political strategists and institutions.
3. Promote interdisciplinary research related to conflict resolution and reconciliation (e.g.  conflict resolution, policy, political science, international relations, politics and law, etc.).

Title: Development of Health Informatics integrated curricula in Computing and Health-oriented undergraduate degrees (HiCure) 

Brief project description

The project outcomes will be applied in two mid-income south Mediterranean countries, Palestine and Jordan (and possibly Egypt), and involve three-five European member estates: UK, Sweden, Germany, Turkey and Portugal.

The specific objectives of this project are:

• to develop a health-informatics and related information technology focused set of courses as a net track that integrates with a number of undergraduate degrees to serve students in computing/computer science, public health, pharmacy and nursing.
• to develop mechanisms and related training material appropriate for each of the different domains to meet with one integrated objective of applied use of health-informatics methods and information technology tools within the respective domain.
• to develop a sustainable unit within involved local higher-education institutions with developed experts that are able to sustain and provide continual training.
• To develop a project dissemination framework that engages wider HEIs and local related governmental and non-governmental organisations and stakeholders through workshops, conferences at both local and regional levels.

Title: Raising the Quality of Teacher Education Programmes in Palestine through Technology Enhanced Learning, Teaching and Assessment (RQTEPP-TELTA)

RQTEPP-TELTA is an Erasmus+ Key Action 2 Higher Education Capacity Building project funded by the European Commission.  The project team is formed from a collaborative partnership among six universities, three from Europe and three from Palestine, who believe strongly in the power of education and innovation to transform lives. 

The overall aim is to develop innovative BA Primary Education degree programmes in the three Palestinian universities. A unique feature of the programmes is that they will be the first in Palestine to provide opportunities for students to follow specialist pathways in diversity, inclusion and special education needs or technology enhanced learning teaching and assessment.

The Project also focuses upon nurturing skills in higher education teaching methods and developing practice-based research for academic staff in the Palestinian universities.

The degree programmes will be further enhanced by the establishment of Technology Enhanced Learning Environments which comprise state of the art Smart Learning Rooms, as well as personal online learning spaces. These developments will facilitate innovation in teaching while providing students with greater autonomy in the learning process. These innovations will transform learning, teaching and assessment in the degree programmes.
