52110 Fundamentals of zoology
The organization of life (atoms, molecules, cells, tissues, organs and body systems). Principles of genetics, classification of living things and the concentration on animal kingdom taxonomy. Structures & life processes in animals (skin, bones, muscles, nutrition & metabolism, internal transport, internal defense, gas exchange, fluid balance, neural control, animal hormones, reproduction, development & animal ecology and evolution.
52111 Fundamentals of zoology lab.
This course is designed to provide practical experience and reinforcement of the material discussed in lectures of the introduction to zoology course.
52211 Principles of Animal Production
The role of farm animals in providing food and other products to the human being. Animal products (milk, meat, wool, eggs and leathers). Basic terminology common to animal science. Common breeds of farm animals, the basic scientific principles of feeding, reproduction, breeding an management of farm animals.
52220 Feeds and Animal Feeding (1)
Relationship between animal and feed. The feed nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water). Physiology of digestive tract, digestive enzymes, and digestion and metabolism. Methods of feed evaluation and estimation of specific nutrient requirements.

Animal cell characters. Anatomy and functions of various body organs and systems(skeletal, muscular, reproductive, digestive, respiratory, hormonal, nervous, excretory and circulatory system of birds and ruminants). Mammary glands and milk secretion. Growth, reproduction and artificial insemination
52240 Poultry Production and Management
The poultry industry, Anatomy, Physiology, and breeds of chickens. Principles of poultry breeding, nutrition, brooding and rearing. Housing and equipment. Lighting management, flock recycling, records management. Incubation and hatchery management, control of diseases and parasites, marketing.
52243 Poultry Prod. and Management / Lab.
Dissecting of birds to study anatomy and physiology of various body organs and systems. The student has to be trained on different practical skills and routine works in poultry houses such as: cleaning, disinfecting, brooding, rearing, vaccination, debeaking, feed formulation, ……..etc,). Visiting and if possible participating in works at local hatcheries and feed factories.

Importance of dairy cattle and their products, breeding and genetic improvement, feeding, reproduction, lactation and health management of dairy herds.
52321 Feeds and Animal Feeding (2)
Voluntary intake of feed and Nutrient requirements of farm animals. Traditional methods of ration formulation. Least cost ration formulation. The animal feedstuffs: forages, silage, hay, straw, cereal grains and their industrial by products and the protein concentrates. The metabolic diseases in animals.
52322 Feeds and Animal Feeding / lab.
The student will be accustomed to different animal feedstuffs, vitamin premixes, methods of taking a sample for chemical analysis. The proximate analysis and Van Soest analysis of feeds. Determination of calcium, phosphorus and trace minerals level in animal feeds. Measuring of gross energy and digestibility of feedstuffs.

The animal health and environmental factors. Water and milk pollution. Disinfectants and methods of disinfecting. Disease definition, occurrence, methods of disease transmission and preventive measures of disease spread. Basic knowledge of vaccination programs. Hygienic conditions and sick animal handling and isolation. An introduction to the most common diseases of animals and poultry in our region.

The economic importance of diseases and their effects on poultry industry. The bacterial, viral, parasitic, fungal and nutritional diseases of poultry.

Dissecting of diseased birds to diagnose the diseases that infected them. Lab. diagnosis of diseases and sensitivity test for antibiotics. Poultry medicines, their properties and use.

Range and man, range land physical characteristics, description of range land types, range plant physiology, range ecology, range inventory and monitoring, stocking rate, selection of grazing systems, range animal nutrition, range management for multiple use, range management in developing countries.
52370 Genetic Improvement of Farm Animals
The cell genetic material. Inheritance of qualitative and quantitative traits, heritability, estimation of breeding value, repeatability, gene frequency, and genetic and phenotypic correlations. Methods of genetic improvement, selection and crossbreeding. Keeping records and methods of breeding. Interaction between environmental factors and genetic factors.

The importance of ruminant animals and animals classification. Growth and development of the ruminant digestive system. Microbiology of the rumen and intestine. Ruminal fermentation and feed utilization and ingestion . Salivary function and production. The passage of ingested feed through the gastro intestinal tract. Digestion and absorption of feed in ruminants, the use of unconventional feed sources.

Digestion and metabolism of various nutrients. Feed nutrients and their deficiency symptoms. Feeding management of layers, broilers and turkey. Nutrient requirements at various stages and factors affecting those requirements. Non –nutritive feed additives. Nutrition, disease and stress interrelationships. Ration formulation for different types of poultry.
