Introduction to Physics and Astronomy ( 3 credit hours)

 

This course treats measurements and units, vectors, motion laws, Newton’s Laws, work and energy, energy systems, energy sources, radiation and radioactivity, resistors and currents, geometric optics, images information, and the solar systems, stars, and galaxies.

(Prerequisite: none)

Geology and Climate ( 3 credit hours)

 

This course addresses the structure of earth and its development, rocks and minerals, the main natural resources (e.g. oil and water), physical and chemical weathering, earthquakes and volcanoes, and the geology of Palestine.  We will discuss climate and weather elements, the atmospheric pressure, humidity and temperature, circulation of wind, rainfall, thunderstorms, and the climate of Palestine.

(Prerequisite: none)

General Physics I (3 credit hours)

 

This course includes such topics as measurement and systems of units, vectors, linear motion, Newton’s Laws, circular motion, work and energy, conservation of energy, systems of particles, linear momentum, collisions, rotational motion, and the Law of Gravitation. (Prerequisite: none)

General Physics II (3 credit hours)

 

This course treats charge and matter, Coulomb’s Law, electric fields, Gauss” Law and its applications, electric potential, capacitors and dielectric, the electric current, resistance, and Ohm’s Law, electromotive force and circuits, the magnetic fields, Amper’s Law, the law of Biot- Savart,  Faraday’s Law of Induction, Lenz’s Law of Alternating Currents, and Maxwell equations.

(Prerequisite: 42101)

General Physics I Lab (1 credit hour)

 

This course comprises 12 sessions of 3 hours each, covering measurement and errors treatment, vectors, kinematics of rectilinear motion, Newton’s Second Law, free falling objects, friction, conservation of energy and momentum, collisions, simple harmonic motion, viscosity, rotational motion, and specific heat capacity. (Prerequisite: none)

 

 

42107   General Physics II Lab (1 credit hour)

This course comprises12 sessions of 3 hours each, covering electric fields and equipotentials, resistivity and Ohm’s Law, Wheatston bridge, the potentiometer, maximum power transfer,  internal resistance, magnetic fields, charge and discharge of a capacitor, 

(RC- Circuits), Krichoff's laws, Joule heat, electromagnetic inductions, and the magnetic field of the earth. (Prerequisite: 42105)

General Physics for Education Students (3 credit hours)

 

This course covers geometric optics, lenses and mirrors, interference, diffractions, lasers, sound waves, velocity and intensity of sound waves, resonance, the Doppler effect, temperature and heat, thermometers and temperature scales, heat absorption, heat transfer, and the Laws of Thermodynamics. (Prerequisite: 42102)

Astronomy (3 credit hours)

 

This course provides a historical introduction and discusses spectroscopy and the electromagnetic spectrum, Kepler’s Laws, Newton’s Laws, observation of the stars, the solar system, stars, the Milky Way and other galaxies, and cosmology. (Prerequisite: 42102)

Climate and Meteorology  (3 credit hours)

 

This course covers atmospheric construction and layers, weather elements and climate, atomospheric pressure, temperature, wind motion, humidity, precipitation, condensation, the relationship between climate and meteorology, physics of clouds, principles of weather forecasting, atmospheric optics, radar meteorology, and atmospheric electricity.

 (Prerequisite: 42102)

Modern Physics (3 credit hours)

 

This course discusses topics such as the Special Theory of Relativity, particle properties of waves (the photon model), wave properties of particles (matter waves), and atomic structure, and provides an introduction to quantum mechanics. (Prerequisite: 42102)

Biophysics (3 credit hours)

 

This course covers biomechanics and thermodynamics, bioelectricity, bioelectronics, biomagnetism, theory of light and its applications, laser bio-optics, theory of sound and its applications, physics of speech and hearing, radiation biophysics, and radiation bio-applications.

(Prerequisite: 42101)

Optics  (3 credit hours)

 

This course discusses the nature and speed of light, laws of geometrical optics (refraction, reflection and dispersion), image formation by lenses and mirrors, optical instruments, interference, diffraction, resolving power, diffraction grating, and polarization of light, and provides an introduction to laser.

(Prerequisite: 42102)

42103   Medical Physics   ( 3 credit hours)

This course covers electrical force, electric fields, electric potential, resistance and electric current, the magnetic field, biomagnetic fields, heat and temperature, the gases, the laws of thermodynamics, X-rays and their medical application, laser and its medical applications , radiation, medical applications of ionic and nonionic radiation, and radiation prevention.
