Hebron University Receives the Palestinian Ambassador to Ireland


Prof. Ahmad Atawneh, Hebron University president, met His Excellency, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Razek, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ireland, in an official visit to discuss the possibility of making research partnership with the European University Association.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Atawneh welcomed the guest on behalf of Dr. Nabil Al-Jabari, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and praised the role of the Republic of Ireland in supporting the Palestinian cause.  Also, he gave a brief account about HU and the academic programs offered. He also talked about the project of establishing a university hospital and a Medical Faculty. The financial crisis that HU has lived due to the troubled economic conditions was also discussed.

In his turn, His Excellency, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Razek expressed his happiness for visiting HU and talked about his previous work at UNESCO and how he was concerned about improving the quality of education in Palestine. Moreover, His Excellency said that there is a possibility of having PhD scholarships at the University of Dublin for ten weeks per year for four years. He stressed the importance of scientific research that contributes to raising the level of university education.

Dr Tawfiq Qaimari, Dean of Scientific Research and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, gave a presentation on scientific research at HU and emphasized the need to develop it at the Palestinian universities due to its contribution to the development of the quality of university education. Furthermore, he talked about the Cancer Research Center and the urgent need to support it.

At the end of the visit, Prof. Atawneh presented a gift to His Excellency who thanked HU for the warm reception and hospitality.
