American-Palestinian Mock Trials at Hebron University


Hebron University Law School, in collaboration with Washington & Lee University Law School (Virginia, USA), organized mock trial exercises that included four law students from each university, led by Prof. Speedy Rice from the United States and Adv. Samer Najmidin from Hebron University. The trial included two cases relating to domestic violence and juvenile justice, and compared the law that is applicable in Palestine to the American penal law and criminal procedure. Some 200 students attended the trial.


This competition comes as part of the cooperation program between Hebron University and Washington & Lee University, which includes setting up a joint off-campus criminal legal clinic specialized in legal assistance criminal law cases with the technical support of the International Legal Foundation (a New York-based non-governmental organization), teaching a common course on the rights of detainees via videoconference, and faculty exchange. At this visit to Hebron University, Prof. Rice and his students delivered six lectures to Palestinian law students and faculty on the US Constitution, American legal education system including clinical legal education, international standards on the rights of detainees, and legal ethics.
