College of Law meets a delegation from International Criminal Court in Bethlehem


Staff and students from the College of Law and Political Science participated in a workshop organized by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Office of Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bansoda that was held at Bethlehem University. 55 law students and two faculty members took part in the event, which was attended by the Palestinian Bar Association, academics, journalists, politicians, lawyers, Independent Commission for Human Rights and NGOs from both the West Bank and Gaza through video-conference. 

 

 

The delegation that came from The Hague and visiting Palestine for the first time, gave an overview about the Court, its mandate and procedures, the status of Palestine/Israel before the ICC, the preliminary examination stage with regard to Palestinian claims, the principle of complementarity and the exercise of universal jurisdiction for international crimes.

 

Hebron University students asked questions that focused on issues relating to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
