The Department Mission
The Media Department represents a central pillar in the larger structure of Hebron University. It strives to achieve its ultimate goals in full participation and integration with other Hebron University departments, faculties and programs. It offers a bachelor's degree that successfully combines courses which belong to all the different branches of media in one plan, an aspect that makes this specialization unique when compared to other media departments at other Palestinian universities. The Department plan is perceived as a unique one since it has managed to integrate the different media branches or sub-disciplines in one specialization. Out of belief in the importance of media in modern times, as well as in the importance of meeting the needs of the community, the Media Department at Hebron University was launched in 2005. The Department aims at graduating highly- skilled, qualified, and distinct graduates in order to boost professional performance among media graduates who may be able to make a real difference until reaching the needed change in the society throughout serious and committed messages. In the first year, thirty students (30) were enrolled in the Department. The number doubled in subsequent years until it amounted to (120) students in 2008/ 2009. In order to achieve the above mentioned goals, the University has been providing all supplies, such as the highly- equipped laboratories necessary to graduate students who are armed with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
The Mission of the Department
The Media Department represents a main brick in the whole University large structure. It goes on achieving its fundamental goals in complete integration with all other University departments and faculties. It offers the bachelor degree in media. But the Media Department at Hebron University differs from all media departments at the Palestinian universities by the integration of all different media branches in one specialization. Believing in the importance of media in the modern times, and by seeking to meet the needs of the society , and for the graduation of highly- skilled qualified and distinct graduates to upgrade the media committed performance by making the real difference in the media foundations until reaching the needed change in the society throughout serious and committed messages, the Media Department at Hebron University was inaugurated in 2005. General and Specific Objectives
The Department has developed a set of objectives to be achieved notably:
1. The pursuit of scientifically informed media in order to promote the
level of the committed and serious media performance.
2. The preparation of highly qualified, competent intellectuals who are capable of serving the media field and contribute to advancing the national and Arab development.
3. Serving the University by highlighting its objectives through conferences, seminars, cultural, and social activities, and by enhancing links with other media and civil institutions.
4. Serving the society by giving the biggest concern to the social issues through the theoretical and practical research.
5. Contributing to the media infrastructure in Palestine, hence, serving and promoting the Palestinian cause, as well as the strategic interests and the fair struggle of the Palestinian people.
6. Encouraging the media related studies and activities such as research, conferences, seminars , workshops, scientific and cultural media events.
7. Graduating distinguished, highly –qualified individuals who are scientifically and intellectually prepared to serve the media work and to help contribute to the development of Palestine.
8. Organizing courses and specialized programmes for the workers in the media sector leading to the creation of media staff who are able to absorb and cope with the successive development in the arts of media industry.
9. Producing and broadcasting educational programmes of various disciplines to serve the educational process.
10. Serving the university by highlighting its activities, conferences, scientific, cultural and social seminars, in addition to strengthening the relations of the university with the Palestinian society and its media institutions.
