Hebron (In Arabic Al Khalil "the friend"), a city, ancient and deep-rooted, With a history fragrant and sweet-scented; A sign on each mound and everywhere And under each stone there is a tale to share.
Hebron was named for Khalil Al-Rahman, which literally means "friend of the Merciful [Allah]". This is a name for the Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), who came to this city in 2000 BC.
Hebron has been ruled by many different nations, who recorded its colorful and eventful history in the pages of time.
Eventually, the city embraced the religion of the Prophet Ibrihim’s descendant, the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him and his family.
This has lent a unique sanctity to the city and given it an eminent dignity which impresses itself upon the hearts of its visitors and citizens.
