Supported by the USAID and the Palestinian Faculty Development Program, the excellence center hosted Professor Torgny Roxa from Lund University in Sweden. In his presentation he talked about how to improve teaching methods in teachers by changing conceptions for students. He also presented four models of teaching theories: “transfer theory” that should move in the direction of “traveling theory” whereby the teacher should move from lecturing to getting students guided through the subject of teaching. While, the “shaping theory” that should move in the direction of “growing theory” whereby teaching shapes students to take their teachers as their models in their future professions, and that should move in the direction of growing theory which focuses on organizing opportunities for learning, leaving students to learn by themselves, and show desire for learning.
The presentation was attended by teachers from all university departments and different fields. At the end, there was a very interesting discussion with the professor by raising questions from the teachers in relation to the theories he presented.
