About TEMPUS Project

Programme established by the European Commission in 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, in order to support the modernisation of higher education and the creation of an area of co-operation in countries surrounding the EU

In 2002, North-African and middle Easst countries became eligible: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Occupied Palestinian territory and Tunisia

TEMPUS Actions

  • Joint Projects (JP): implemented at institutional level to reform curricula, improve university governance, create more links with society
  • Structural Measures (SM): implemented at national level for the development and reform of national higher education structures and systems in Partner Countries
  • Accompanying Measures: dissemination and information activities (conferences, studies, exchange  of good practices, National Tempus Offices, High Education Reform Experts, etc.)

Implementing TEMPUS

TEMPUS  encourages educational institutions from the EC and from surrounding countries to collaborate by the creation of consortia
Consortia develop Joint Projects (JP) or Structural Measures (SM) with a number of clear objectives and financial support for a maximum of 36 months
