Teaching in this faculty started in September 1998/
1999. The students are granted a Bachelor degree in
nursing sciences (BSN) upon successfully completing 139
credit hours divided between practical & theoretical
courses over 4 academic years and a 150- hour
internship.
The faculty limits the number of enrolled students to
20- 25 students every year, in proportion to the faculty
members and the facilities available for practical
training. There are currently 100 students enrolled in
the College.
Since its imagination, 60 students have graduated. The
first class graduated in 2002.
These graduates work at the different health sectors in
the private and public institutions.Some of the
graduates have enrolled in specialty courses, such as
Ophthalmic Nursing at St. John’s Ophthalmic Hospital in
Jerusalem
Clinical training in the College starts at the beginning
of the second academic year. The students have the
opportunity to learn skills and practice in the ‘nursing
labs’ on campus. After learning basic skills and
acquiring some proficiency they go on to institutions to
learn and practice their skills. Coordination in this
regard takes place between the Ministry of Health and
the administration of the following hospitals in Hebron
and Bethlehem:

Mental & Psych. Diseases Hospital

Arab Society for Rehabilitation

In
addition to Jerusalem Hospitals and out side
of Palestine when opportunities or other factors permit.
College Philosophy:
The philosophy of the College of Nursing focuses on the
individual and her/his physical, social, spiritual and
psychological well-being. Special attention is given to
the promotion of health, standards of care and
prevention of diseases in the community.
Teaching in this faculty is based on giving theoretical
education & clinical training for all nursing majors
such as adult, pediatric, maternity, and community
nursing.
This teaching covers the basics of language and science
of this profession including its ethics.
The faculty members are highly- qualified and well
experienced. They promote not only the art of acquiring
skills but also help students in critical thinking and
problem solving. The staffs aims to direct students
towards the proper nursing behaviour which responds to
and copes with positive health needs required for this
merciful profession.
Objectives:
1.
Providing a distinguished educational programme in nursing
theories and skills.
2.
Graduating scientifically and practically, well-qualified
nurses to fulfill the current and the future health
needs of the Palestinian society.
3.
Promoting the level of nursing profession through teaching the
concept of health, life needs, and enhancing the nursing
profession.
4.
Strengthening a team work spirit among different professional
sectors.
5.
Promoting scientific research.
6.
Maintenance of a high-level institution able to interact with
the health needs of the Palestinian society that keeps
up with the scientific developments.
Faculty activities
·
With
the support of the United Palestine Appeal (UPA), the
faculty held a two-day workshop in January 2004 under
the title "Nursing Care of Cancer Patients”.
Nurses from the middle and southern regions of the West
Bank participated and international centre and local
speakers presenters.
·
We have
been busy attending many seminars and workshops
including:

"
Project Proposal and Institution Development" held at
Hebron University," Early Marriage in Palestinian
Society", conducted by the Family Planning Association,
workshop on "Diabetes at Al-Ahli hospital."
·
As we
broaden our horizons, we also went to the "The First
Vocational Gathering on Newborn Health" and attended"
The General Conference for Nursing "at Bethlehem
University.
·
Some of
our staff attended ‘Newborn C.P.R ‘at Al Ahli Hospital
and a nurse-patient workshop about Breast Cancer in
Jerusalem. Most recently we attended a workshop on
Professional Ethics for Union Psychologists and Social
Workers and a meeting at Al Ihsan Society that discussed
‘dealing with a handicapped population’.

With
the support of the United Palestine Appeal (UPA), the

Faculty Relations
In addition
to the workshops and other activities, the Faculty is
interested in forming relations with local and
international institutions. In September a delegation
from Glasgow University visited the department. In
addition, our staff meets regularly with local health
professionals in workshops, seminars and general
meetings.
- We are keen to develop professional contacts with
other institutions around the world to learn, share and
develop our faculty further.
The role of the students
The
students engage in multi - activities at the different
health institutions such as volunteer work and practical
training. In addition they also:

Volunteer at the Mental Health Hospital - Bethlehem
2-
Volunteer at the Palestine Red Crescent Society in
Hebron
3-
Participated in the vaccination programme which the
Palestinian Ministry of Health launched in summer 2004
Strategies of nursing college
·
Increase female student nurses to exceed 70% or the
total number of students in the college.
·
Implement upgrading program for nurses to acquire BS in
nursing within the next 3 years
·
Promote
the colleges in the public and in (high schools)
·
Enhance
the college uniqueness in cancer care and terminally in
nursing care through workshops, scientific days & short
courses for staff.
·
Implement evaluation process for the college graduates.
·
Start
continuing education activates for the college members.
·
Exchange experiences and visits with internal & external
colleges and health settings.
·
Twinning with regional external colleges like Jordan
Universities (Nursing Faculties) in order to expand and
acquire experiences.
·
Participate actively in research related to nursing and
health teaching for the public in Palestine.
