The department was opened in 1980. It started with 287
students. At the beginning, the department followed the
academic year system. Then, in 1982 it followed the
credit hour system and then distance learning was
stopped. The department opened a Master Program in
Arabic in 1997. The department also offers a program in
Methods of Teaching Arabic.
